Your Hair Might Look Great, But It Smells Bad

It really doesn't matter how fragrant your shampoo

, conditioner or styling products are, as soon as you step into a greasy spoon restaurant, you'll commit your hair to smelling like a deep fryer.

Scent is one of the strongest senses we have, and leaves a lasting impression on the people we meet. It can either accentuate or detract from your appearance, so it's important to keep your hair sweet scented throughout the day.

Your hair traps dust, dirt and airborne particles all through the day. It also traps heavy scents in the environment you are in. Even if you don't smoke, spending just a few minutes next to a smoker can leave the smell of cigarettes in your hair.

Perspiration is another contributor to poor smelling hair. Sweat builds up on the scalp, especially if you're wearing a cap or a hat. Even in winter months, your scalp can sweat, secreting odour into your hair.

Many commercial products offering to refresh the smell of your hair contain alcohol based fragrance. This will temporarily mask the smell, but it's damaging to your hair and it doesn't last long. Alcohol has a high evaporation level, so it dissipates quickly, taking your hair's natural moisture with it.

Dry shampoo is one great way to freshen up your hair as it absorbs both odour and oil between regular washings. It's a great product if you wash your hair every other day, because it will clean out any lingering odours and leave your hair smelling crisp and clean. However, if you're out for a night on the town, this is not a viable solution.

Many fruit and plant based products offer a neutral or slightly scented fragrance for your hair, without using alcohol based substances. Natural ingredients, such as lemon juice, chamomile or peppermint are natural deodorizers that will neutralize the unpleasant substances that are trapped in your hair, leaving your locks smelling fresh and fabulous.
