Your Interior Design Style Should Be Similar To Your Home's Style
There are a lot of reasons people buy a home and design its interior in a certain manner
. Their home may fit their budget, it may have a great location, or it may have been passed on to them by a family member. They may not make the choice based on the style of the home, or the home's style may be the number one reason for them making the purchase. Regardless of your reason for choosing a certain home for your own, it is important to choose an interior design style that matches the overall feel of the house. The home's exterior does not have to be the exact same as the interior, but there are certain things that should remain consistent from the inside to the outside of the home. For instance, if you buy a custom modular home you should stay away from large, dark Victorian furnishings. Custom modular buildings have a boxy, modern shape that is not suitable for ornate, older pieces. You would be better off choosing more modern furniture pieces, or going for a boxier look with your furniture, like mid-century pieces would offer.
The same is true for a rustic style home. If you have chosen a home like this your furnishings should reflect that style. The pieces should be sturdy, warm, and casual. If you were to put ultra modern furnishings in a space like this, it would feel awkward.
You may not realize it right away, but you, your fellow residents, and anyone who visits your home may feel uncomfortable because of the difference in styles. However, if you have chosen a home that is more a loft space in a downtown, hip and trendy environment, those modern pieces are going to fit in great whereas The country furniture would not feel comfortable.
When making your home choice, consider style along with price and location. Some aspects you can change on the interior like paint and flooring. But the exterior of your home should drive your interior design choices. If you want to be able to have eclectic pieces indoors, choose a transitional exterior. However, if you are only comfortable with a certain style of furnishings, the exterior of your home should reflect this style as well.
When shopping, choose furnishings that respect the integrity of the style and architecture of the exterior of your home. This is the best way to have a consistent, pleasing design in a home you and your family will love for many years to come.
