Your Job Is Important, However You Are and Can Have More Than Your Job

However, there may be more meanings that one should consider, that are related to the concept of considering yourself, or your job, as something that goes beyond the commonly accepted concept of "your job". There are at least three areas of meaning that are worth considering:

Your job is more than just your job. Everything we do gives us the possibility to express ourselves, and our job makes no exception. It's not a matter of what specific job we're doing, we are responsible of the attitude we have in doing it, the effort we put in it and the meaning we give to it.

You can have more than just one job. In the complex world we live in there are more and more opportunities to go beyond our day job and start a side job to exploit our talents, gain more income and feel more fulfilled.

You're more than just your job. As I have mentioned at the beginning of the article, we need balanced lives to fully express ourselves and we must make the proper amount of time to cultivate our lives, stay with our loved ones, help the others,...

Since I use the expression "more than your job", and I talk of side jobs and personal life interests, one may think that my position is that people should fill up their life with too many activities; if one feels comfortable and satisfied with his job and his work-life balance, good for him, that's great. What I want to underline is that no single aspect one's life (work, hobbies, family, etc.) should become the only source of meaning for life. We need balanced lives and this implies understanding what are the things that are valuable to us and doing our best in everything we do. There's a deep meaning in all we do, and we should treasure every second and be always living the present moment, and this is true both at our job and when we're spending time with our family or friends.
