Your Marriage is a Disaster! What You Must Do Now to Save It
Your marriage is a disaster. You and your spouse both know it. You two rarely talk about what you're feeling, physical intimacy is all but a distant memory and when you do communicate, you're both yelling. Does that sound like your relationship? If it does, you've got some hard decisions to make. You can give up and file for divorce or you can roll up your sleeves and get to work saving the marriage. Regardless of how far apart you and your spouse feel at this moment, there's still hope for you two to rebuild from the rubble of what's left of your broken marriage.
It goes without saying that communication is the cornerstone of any successful relationship. This is particularly true in the case of marriage. Unless you and your partner are talking openly about what you're feeling and thinking, nothing will ever change. It's hard for some couples to talk mainly because they've reached a point where they are both so defensive that anytime either tries to bring up the subject of the failing marriage, the other goes on the attack. You two must sit down and rationally discuss things.
One helpful tip for handling communication when your marriage is a mess is to set in place some guidelines for discussions. Make a promise to one another to do your best to not interrupt each other and to listen carefully to the other. You can't really work on saving your marriage unless you understand what your partner needs from you. Listen to them and ask the same of them. Respect comes into play here and you have to draw on the respect that you two do still have for one another.
When's the last time you and your partner actually spent one-on-one time with one another? If you can't remember, it's been too long. Once a couple makes the transition into being parents the dynamic of their relationship changes. They don't put each other at the top of their respective priority lists anymore. They become disconnected and lose touch with one another. It's interesting how many couples who are facing a marriage crisis say that it's as though they're living with a stranger.
That's why you need to work with your partner to reacquaint yourselves with one another. Reach out to your spouse and let them know that you miss spending time just with them. Develop a plan to make it happen. Once you two rediscover each other it can transform the entire landscape of your marriage.
