If we consider the journey that our packages make as they are delivered from one place to the next they have quite a lot to go through
. It is important that we pack them well so that the delivery company that we choose are able to deliver the items efficiently and promptly allowing them to get there in one piece.
The first part of the process is the collection. The package is picked up from either your house or a business address. It is taken onto a van and often these vehicles do not have shelves. Larger and smaller parcels are sometimes separated but this is not always the case. So consider the fact that your package is likely to be moving and sliding around a lot in the back of this van.
The van will drop your parcel off at a sorting hub. This will involve someone unloading the van and putting the parcels onto a conveyor belt system. In this system a large amount of packages are dealt in a very short timeframe; with such a large volume being processed, packages may touch each other and will need to be strong enough to resist any bumps or rough handling by machinery.
The best idea is to always box your package, even if it already has a case, as the case too could be at risk of damage if this is the outer shell of the parcel. It can sometimes be tempting to wrap your package using bin bags or plastic coverings however this kind of wrapping could get caught up and tangled during the process. Using a box is the most effective way to protect the contents of your package.
Getting a box which is just the right size is important; one which is too small is at risk of warping and bending under pressure, thus weakening it. A box that is too big will mean that the contents are rattling around inside of it.
Make sure when you do box the item that any voids within the box are filled. A great way to do this is with recycled polystyrene chips or bubble wrap. An even cheaper alternative is shredded newspaper. Also ensure that the contents within are not touching the sides of the box, so that they are not at risk of getting bashed.
Once you have ensured that your items are wrapped up securely for delivery, ensure that you have the correct address and postcode on; your parcel is now ready to be sent!
