You've Decided You Want A Motorbike, But What Other Decisions Do You Need To Make?

So you have finally decided to get a motorbike

. You are excited about the freedom and thrill that it will bring into your life! There are some decisions you need to make and things you need to do before making this dream come true.

The first major decision is to figure out what kind of motorbike you want to ride. There are many different types of bikes that you can choose from. A standard bike is a great choice for a beginner rider because it is has few plastic parts that can break when the bike is dropped. It is also appropriate for everything from just local cruising to long road trips. If you are planning on doing a lot of long distance travelling on your bike than a touring bike might be a better choice for you because it has lots of luggage space for you to put everything you need for your road trips.

Some people want a sports bike because they are easy to handle, fast and small in size. These are best suited for someone who is experienced in handling a bike and confident in using one. Cruiser type of motorbikes such as Harley-Davidsons are usually quite heavy and larger in size so are not for the weak in strength or confidence! They are made to look awesome more than anything else.

Enduro bikes are a good option for someone who is planning trips cross-country and have tyres that can travel well in dirt, mud and gravel. If you are wanting to do some off-roading but still want to be able to travel well on the streets than a dual sports bike should be considered as it will handle well in both situations.

After you have finally decided which bike is best suited to you don't forget that you need a proper motorbike license. You will need to prove that you know road safety and rules so that you can drive your motorbike and not be a danger to yourself or others. Part of being safe is to have the right equipment. You will need a helmet, heavy trousers that will protect your legs from burns, road rash and other elements, an appropriate jacket, gloves and boots so that you are comfortable and safe.

Once you have your license and equipment you will need to take your motorbike to get it inspected. This inspection will ensure that the bike is road ready and that you will be safe driving it. An inspection will also be required by most motorbike insurance companies, which is necessary by law.

Whilst the law only requires that you have motorbike insurance that covers third party it is a good idea to look into all the insurance policies that are offered and decide which one is best for you. Comprehensive motorbike insurance will protect you in most situations that arise and can give you the comfort of knowing that you are covered in case of theft, accident, fire, injury and other situations that arise. The type of motorbike insurance you get may depend on what type of bike you get, its market value and where you plan on driving it.
