I have several friends who have for various reasons opted not to have children, they have dogs instead. They treat their dogs better than most children are treated, of course, the dogs never talk back or don't do their homework or come home past curfew so I can see the point! It would be easier. When I was a girl we lived on a little farm, it was my responsibility to raise the chickens. I learned to love chickens, there are many of lives lessons learned by watching chickens. They aren't always nice and if a chicken has a blood spot on it the others will peck it to death, reminds me of Jr. High. Chickens are very selfish and will often try to hoard any food you might throw in their pens instead of sharing with their sisters. If you were to throw a loaf of bread in a chicken pen they would all try to grab as much as possible and run away and eat I by themselves. I learned the advantages of sharing watching the chickens.
