Nosema is the most common among the mature honey bee ailments. A solitary celled animal referred to as Nosema apis, a tiny, unicellular parasite particular to the honeybee, causes it. Nosema can't exist in a laboratory culture, the same as with nearly all bacteria and fungi. It can only succeed and increase in the epithelial cells of the honey bee ventriculus which causes dysentery. Queens, drones plus workers are all at risk to Nosema. The spores of the Nosema must be ingested for the bee to be contaminated. The spore takes root in the midgut, where they could enter a midgut cell and develop through soaking up nutrients from that cell. The parasite would grow in size until it is huge enough to split in half. Every new freeloader may possibly carry on feeding on the nutrients of the cell until they are worn-out. In a matter of time, around six to 10 days, 100 new spores are produced in the contaminated cell. The contaminated cell when depleted of all the nutrients breaks releasing all the newly produced spores into the midgut to begin the method all over again.
