Holiday checklists are not just something for the excessively fastidious amongst us, they are a basic necessity. Planning a holiday can be on par with planning a bank job in terms of unforeseen eventualities and overall complexity. The more law-abiding of us will hopefully have had more experience in the former and so should have some prior knowledge of those unforeseen aspects. You should not , therefore, feel like a bespectacled librarian...more
Author: EM Downing JohnsonThe new year is here. It is time to go back to work, take down the tree, and put away all the Christmas presents. Well...maybe not all of the Christmas presents. Did Aunt Frieda give you a pair of Uncle Freddie's unused golf ball-shaped gold cufflinks? Did Cousin Sarah knit you a pair of socks better suited to a toddler than your grown-up-sized tootsies? Did you receive a gift card to a restaurant that's closest location...more
So the other day I was looking for apartments for rent and I came across an ad for cheap holidays apartments in Aya Napa. Intrigued, I started looking a little close and found that Aya Napa is actually a section of the island of Cyprus in the Mediterranean. It's supposed to be an absolutely lovely place to visit and spend time in. One of the places that sounds particularly cool in Aya Napa was the famous water park. Located just outside the city, but accessible by taxi, it is supposed to be one of the best in the world and certainly one of the biggest in the area. Tourists and the locals will mix here since everyone comes in order to get the incredible adrenaline rush of going on the death defying rides. It can get a little loud and crowded though, so if you want some quiet, it's probably best to go to the beach, but if you want that rush that comes from living on a knife edge, you should definitely go for it. I certainly plan to. The place is supposed to be pretty easy to find, located near Nissi Road. And of course if you don't have a car, like I said, just take a taxi. And not to worry, there are lifeguards on duty everywhere at the park, so you needn't be too concerned while...more
From a very young age, I was very conscious of the need to impart to friends and family members meaningful, if simple, gifts, particularly for the holidays. I have always delighted in seeing the reactions of the receivers as they open my gifts. But in this economy, we unfortunately cannot lavish the same kinds of gifts on our loved ones. That...more
When it comes time to choose presents and gifts, I write my list and then I sit and look at it. Sometimes this is where I stop, as it can be extremely difficult to come up with gift ideas that are new and exiting, and sometimes the truth is - people are not always easy to buy for.If this happens to you as well, then you may find that Christmas...more
Autumn is the perfect time to clean out and let go of what no longer serves you in your life.Look around and notice that the days are getting shorter and the leaves are falling from the trees. Soon, there will be less bounty and abundance being offered from the flowers and plants. Nature is letting go of excess and stripping down to the essentials - to what is really necessary to get through the long, dark winter. These cues from nature are beautiful invitations to help you in identifying, releasing, and letting go of the excess, of the things that are perhaps weighing you down in your life. It's important to "clean house" on an inner level every now and again, and take stock of what you're holding onto.So often, you hold on to old fears, resentments, habits, patterns, limiting beliefs and ways of being because they FEEL comfortable since you've been clenching on to them for so long. However, when you take a closer look, you can begin to see that these things no longer serve you, and in fact are standing in your way of moving forward. The tree metaphor applies here: imagine what might happen if trees never shed their leaves? Yes, they might not ever look bare, and there is comfort...more
