Finally, the iPad 3G is here

Finally, the iPad 3G is here. And those who have bought them could not be happier. This unit is totally complete with a data plan from AT&T. Many users are reporting that after jumping in and out of Wi-Fi spots using the Wi-Fi version, the iPad 3G is vastly superior.

At a glance, the 3G does not seem to be that much different from the Wi-Fi model. The screen is similar; the speakers are every bit as loud, and the 3G model weight about the same. Although Apple claims it is about a tenth of a pound heavier than its cousin.The biggest variation is that of a black plastic bar along the backside rather than theall-aluminum enclosure. This plastic area is what lets the cellular antennae create the magic that makes the iPad 3G so special. Also, there is also a barely visible micro SIM card slot along the side.

Prior to surfing the Internet, users are prompted to sign up for an AT&T data plan. Two choices are offered. The first is a 250MB plan for $15 per month, and the second is an unlimited data plan for $30 per month. There are no contracts or long term obligations, so users can switch plans whenever they choose or even cancel altogether without a penalty. The beautiful thing about the iPad 3G model is that you can always cancel the plan and revert back to using the Wi-Fi functionality, but you obviously you cannot do the reverse and add 3G to the cheaper Wi-Fi model.
