It was Autumn 2009 in the beautiful town of Missoula. I would have fired my boss there and then if he was around! Something drastically changed in me that night. It was a powerful moment that I will never forget!
After the initial meeting, the majority, if not all, of the potential recruits headed home. I opted to stay for a second meeting. This meeting was primarily for the current members only, so I sat in the back and listened in. The leader/speaker was "teaching" the members some strategies on team-building. I was very unsatisfied by what this leader classified as "strategies". He claimed he often pitched his business opportunity to customers at the gas station while he was in line to pay. If that was his strategy to grow a business he must get A LOT of gas and groceries.Randomly asking people at the convenience store if they were interested in a business opportunity was not for me.
I decided to do some research a day later online. It seemed that a lot of people went to these meetings, got fired up and joined, and later had to quit because they were not making any money. Some previous members thought it was a scam because they were not successful. I was about to classify this career opportunity as "false hope" and shut off my computer.
Thankfully, I stumbled across a link that sounded interesting.The content on the site addressed some of my concerns about looking for prospects. It said that I could be the hunted rather than the hunter, by using certain marketing strategies.
Which is exactly what I wanted!
I didn't want to go through the painful process of asking thousands of uninterested people if they were interested in my opportunity. I wanted the people already interested to find me!
