The trips that ran on pure impulse are the once we remember. Mine began on the 3rd of June 2009 to Greece, a 24 hour flight from Sydney to Zurich , Zurich to Athens, the longest way is the only way when your on a budget.

After arriving there was the task of finding a hostel I decided on the Aphrodite Hostel. It was only a train ride from the airport station. Leaving little room to get lost.

The hostel had three levels of dorms, with bunk beds. The less bunk beds the higher the price so I shared with four other people paying $25.00 a night. The hostel had a cute little bar where I spent most of my time drinking nothing other than Mythos beer. The showers had one door leading into a room separated into two one shower for ladies and the other for men, great place to meet the other house mates.

The13 hour boat ride to Ios leaves three times a day, on Hellenic seaways, coasting me 52.00 euro (the slow ferry) during peak season.

Being a young back packer all I wanted was a good party and Ios lived up to it name The Island Of Sin. This Greek island is run with backpackers, and is a great place to go if you're a bit short on money and want to enjoy the sun and just party. You can get a easy job working on the door at the clubs, earning about 30 euro a night, which is not much but it pays for accommodation and alcohol, and that's all you really need. If you planed to stay for the entire season which I recommend, I would recommend finding a apartment in the village, the earlier you get there the cheaper it is and the more lenient the tenant on keeping the price per night the same. Apartments in the village are closer to the clubs meaning you don't have to crawl to far to bed.

If you can pull yourself out of bed around 3 in the afternoon, you can hire a quad bike and drive around and see the rest of the island and its beautiful beaches. To rent is about 7 euro an hour, where as in high season they kick off around 10 -12 and hour.

One of my favourite places in the world to watch the sunset and listen to some life music is The Harmony restaurant, which is located at the top of the cliff looking over the beach.

Happy hours is between 6 and 7 where you can get a staffy' which is a hamburger and chips which you can wash down with a huge jug of sangria which is only 5 euro, and is great place to start every night.

The only problem with this place is wanting to leave, after spending 3 months there you create a new normal and when that's gone the withdrawal symptoms kick in and the only thing left is reality. enjoy!!
