Everybody may have a different way to check their snowplow Equipment before the storm but this works for me. The first thing I do is what is called a Pre-trip inspection just like you would on a tractor trailer. Lift the hood on your plow truck , check the engine oil, power steering fluids, windshield washer fluids , and battery connections are tight, check the belts be sure they are not cracked, check the coolant level, (with the truck cold),...more
Truck driving is enough of fatigue on a sunny day, but night time can add a lot more fatigue and stress.Your body uses up more energy at night to strain to see what is in front and along side of your rig.You are also fighting on coming glare and lets not forget the famous wild life that comes out at night it can be like driving through a zoo. I know I have done it. Remember most truckers do not work 8 hours a day no, no, no try 14 hrs a day. So I would say better lighting for drivers at night should be common sense. So lets discuss whats out there. I have inspected many of rigs only to find out that there are no additional driving lights on their trucks. I have also found that the ones that do have their driving lights or fog lights on their trucks somebody replaced the bulbs with regular lights, totally useless, at that point do not even turn on your driving lights. There are companies out there that specialize in this field. The concepts to do and the use of lights are a big aid in bad weather. I have driven trucks with special driving or fog lights and without, and the correct driving or fog lights make a big, big difference. Lets talk about the difference between fog lights and...more
When it comes to snow blades there are many different things you should know. I guess the first thing I would consider is what my application is. Am I plowing driveways? Parking lots? Snowplow markers, snowplow reflectors and plow guides are they necessary? Anything that helps a driver be able to see in lower visible nights is basically a no brainer. When you are plowing at night which is when most roads are being cleared, so commuters can get to work. The less strain you put on your eyes to see the better for a snow plow...more
Most heavy-duty trucks use dual air brake systems for safety. and stopping A dual air brake system has two separate air brake systems, which use a single set of brake controls. Each system has its own air tanks, hoses, lines, etc. One system typically operates the regular brakes on the rear axle or axles. The other system operates the regular brakes on the front axle (and possibly one rear axle). Both systems supply air to the trailer (if there is one). The first system is named the primary system. The other is named the secondary system. .Before driving a vehicle with a dual air system, allow time for the air compressor to build up a minimum of 95-100 psi pressure in both the primary and secondary systems. Watch the primary and secondary air pressure gauges (or needles, if the system has two needles in one gauge). Pay attention to the low air pressure warning light and buzzer. The warning light and buzzer should shut off when air pressure in both systems rises to a value set by the manufacturer. This value must be greater than 60 psi.The warning light and buzzer should come on before the air pressure drops below 60 psi in either system. If this happens while driving, you should...more
