The most important thing you must do when trying to get fit or lose weight is to keep a daily diary. I cannot stress how important this is, in fact it is crucial to the success or failure of your keep fit campaign. Its like they say in business if you want to manage something then you have to measure it and if you don't measure it accurately then you can't manage it properly. Embarking on a fitness regime of any sort without recording what exercise you are taking or what food you are eating would be like running a business without any management information. Quite simply you won't have a clue how you are doing unless you measure it.

Your diary should contain your long and short term goals but more importantly it should hold a record of every exercise you do and what meals you are eating. Your diary can simply be a note book with each page used as a record for each day or you could set up your own more detailed recording system held on computer spreadsheet. It doesn't really matter how you do it as long as you do it consistently and honestly each day.

So Exactly What Should You Record?

You should simply keep a record of the meals you are eating throughout the day and don't forget to record all the snacks you maybe having in between meals. This is very useful as at the end of each day you can have a good look back on the day and assess whether you are sticking to your diet or not. This way you can easily identify the problem foods that you know you should be avoiding but are still maybe finding hard to do without, you can then target to cut down on these over the next few days.

In addition you should record exactly what exercise you are doing so that you are able to constantly challenge yourself and assess whether you should be pushing harder in the next session. For example you may have run 2 miles in 20 minutes and so you know that to keep the pressure on and to keep improving you really need to go a little quicker next time. Or you may have done 8 full press ups so the challenge is to do 9 next time.

Keeping a strict record ensures you have all the necessary information at your finger tips to ensure you constantly move forward on your quest to get fit and healthly, so don't delay start writing this stuff down today!
