subject: Repairing A Evap System [print this page]

The Evaporating Emission Control System commonly known as EVAP system is designed specially to store and dispose of the gas (fuel) vapors created in the fuel system; preventing these vapors to flee away to the atmosphere. These vapors are then delivered to the chamber where they mix with the air to be burned. EVAP system basically designed to sustain the fuel tank pressure without letting the gas vapors to flee away to the atmosphere. EVAP systems are of many kinds but they all have one sole component in them common that is Charcoal canister. This purpose of this charcoal canister is to keep gas vapors stored until the combustion process starts.

EVAP is mostly a black container filled with charcoal pellets, which are there to absorb the gas vapors. EVAP is mostly found in the distant corners of the engine section. However, the location of charcoal canisters may differ in different vehicles. In some vehicles charcoal canisters are mounted near the gas tanks to maximize the efficiency and performance.

The gas vapors are absorbed in the charcoal canister and the charcoal canister keep them stored there until the combustion process starts in the engine. This canister is mostly fixed with fuel tank through the series of hoses. In the charcoal canister the flames are also burned along with the gas vapors which are so helpful in the emission process.

Sometimes charcoal canister becomes faulty and needs to be replaced. It is not hard task to replace the charcoal canister; you can easily replace it in your parking lot with the help of common tools. The replacement process is almost the same for all sorts of vehicles. Hereunder are given few steps with the help of them you can easily replace or change the charcoal canister.

You Require

Steps

1.Park the car at a flat leveled surface and it is good to apply handbrakes. Lift the car with the help of the jack. Make your way under the car to the drivers side.

2.Find the charcoal canister anywhere around the fuel tank. It is a body with many plastic fuel-line tubes or hoses attached to it. Take an appropriate screwdriver and detach all those fuel line connections.

3.Unbolt the charcoal canister from the frame with the help of ratchet. Charcoal canister must be supported by brackets, remove the bolts and pull the canister out.

4.Follow the same procedure to replace the new charcoal canister. Tight all the bolts and fuel line connections properly to avoid any leakage or damage.

Suggestions & Tips

-It is strongly recommended not to use any inflammable substance or material near the working area.
