subject: Back With A Bang With The Nokia N8 [print this page]

Nokia followers and mobile phone consumers alike all probably know that compared to their dominance a decade or so ago, Nokia hasn"t been reaching the same heights in terms of its market share. While it still remains to be the king of the mid-range market, the high-end segment, i.e. the Smarpthone industry, has been ruled over by the Blackberry"s and the iPhones. With the imminent launch of the Nokia N8, the Finnish telecom tycoons are hoping for a change in fortune.

Below are three reasons why we think the N8 has the potential to revitalize the performance of Nokia, at least in the Smartphone segment.

Snap That

Perhaps the biggest feature (quite literally) of the Nokia N8 is its mind-boggling 12-Megapixel camera. To date, no mobile phone is able to better this calibre of mobile phone camera and Nokia is proud to say that they"ve joined the big boys (Samsung and Sony Ericsson already have their own 12-MP mobile phones) in this particular category.

However, what makes the N8"s camera even more impressive is all the features and functions it comes with. For starters, the likes of Carl Zeiss optics, a neutral density filter, and a 1/1.83" sensor size all aim to capture photos of the highest quality.

You can also make use of added features such as geo-tagging and smile detection to make the entire experience even more enjoyable and memorable. If still shots aren"t enough for you then go ahead and capture videos on the N8 at an amazing 720p HD quality.

All about the Symbian

One of the main criticisms received by a majority of past Nokia Smartphones is in the mobile operating system department. To put it simply, the Symbian OS simply isn"t as good as the likes of the Google Android or the iPhone"s proprietary OS. In fact, some might even argue that it pales in comparison.

However, with the new Symbian ^3 OS on board the Nokia N8, both Nokia and Symbian hopes to reimage its reputation as a quality mobile OS. It has added new features such as enhanced 2D and 3D graphics capabilities, added touch functions, and a more customizable user interface. We haven"t tested the OS yet, but on paper it definitely looks like there is much to be excited about.

Style and Substance

One thing you can count on with Nokia mobiles is that it never fails to find the balance between style and substance in its mobile phones (save for a few exceptions, of course). The good thing is, the same can be said for the Nokia N8. Most, if not all of its mobile phone functions are top of the line including five-band 3G network compatibility, high speed data connectivity (HSDPA, EDGE, GPRS, and Wi-Fi are all of the highest level), and an impressive 680 MHz ARM 11 processor.

With five colour schemes to choose from and a high definition touch screen display, the N8 can definitely paint your world with colour. The design is pretty awesome and the compactness of the N8 makes it a perfect fit into the palm of your hands. GP
