subject: The Tested And Proven Panic Attack Medication [print this page]

Medical books define panic attack as "a period of intense pain and discomfort." This period always come in a person by surprise since there is no warning as to when an attack would occur. Once an attack is experienced, anxiety of when the next attack will happen is one thing that will make it worse, thereby making this disorder one of the most feared.

To make matters worse, as of now, there are more than 4 million Americans affected by this disorder. Perhaps we could consider it a plague already. Many are not treated yet due to many factors and one of which I ignorance. They do not know how to treat it much more that they do not know that it can be treated.

It gives us hope though to know that panic attack is treatable. As time goes by, studies and researches have tested and proven some methods to be successful in dealing with panic attacks. There are different types of treatment for panic attack. They include some natural treatments, counselling, and even medications.

There are many panic attack medications available for prescription. To name some, we have the Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs), the Benzodiazepines, the Tricyclic Antidepressants (TCAs), the Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (MAOIs), the Serotonin-Norepinephrine Reuptake Inhibitors (SNRIs). There are other medications which may be used for panic attacks aside from these stated.

With all the medication mentioned, the first one, the SSRIs, is perhaps the perfect panic attack medication. SSRIs is the most prescribed and used medication for panic attack. This is so because it as the least side effects compared to the TCAs or the Benzodiazepines. It is also not as habit forming as the other medications in the list.

To understand how it works, we will try to work a little imagination. Try to think that your brain is a factory producing different kinds of goods. So the brain is the factory and the goods are the neurotransmitter in the brain. Now, the goods produced by the brain must be balance to maintain the stability out in the market. If they become imbalance, the factory might go bankrupt and close. Hence, the function of the SSRIs is to bring to balance the neurotransmitter that is present in the brain.

The SSRIs may be the tested and proven panic attack medication but still, everything is subject to the doctor's prescription. One must remember that every individual has different biological build up and therefore they have different needs. Some medications will work for this person but not for the other. To be sure, always consider a professional's advice.

Aside from medication, try to consider as well other treatments for panic attack. Like those which are mentioned earlier, you can try to life a healthy lifestyle by watching your diet and going on a regular exercise, or perhaps, you can go get yourself counselling services.
