subject: Hidden Video Cameras- How They Are Detecting Crimes. [print this page]

Several years ago we were all able to easily spot surveillance cameras wherever they were mounted and this was due largely to the fact that they were big and bulky. However, with the advancement in technology, it is becoming extremely difficult if not impossible to tell what is or what is not a surveillance camera. The lenses of these cameras have become so small that they can now be installed in practically anything. These secret hidden cameras can now be planted in items as small as a ballpoint pen, a wrist watch and so forth.

So, because of their versatility and portability the use of these hidden cameras or spy cameras as some people call them, is becoming increasingly popular in our society. Today, more and more people are using hidden security cameras for different purposes. Parents are using nanny cams to monitor their childcare workers and babysitters to ensure that their children are they being treat humanely. People with loved ones in the nursing homes are using wireless hidden cameras to catch abuses or neglect in these nursing homes. Homeowners are using spy cameras to monitor their valuables or catch a trusted person in a treacherous act. Investigating agencies and private investigators use spy cameras to collect unquestionable evidence. Television stations are now using these hidden cameras to expose scam artists and con artists. Private companies are using office hidden cameras to monitor employee activity. Business owners have been able to uncover among other things theft, trespassing, and inappropriate conduct by using these hidden cameras. Businesses sometimes locate these hidden cameras inside or behind various displays in the store so that, unless you look hard, you will not be able to see the camera. Stores with lots of expensive items almost always have these hidden security cameras watching for shoplifters.

Hidden video cameras are not used primarily to prevent crimes of any sort for the simple reason that these criminals do not know that they are actually being watched. However, a spy camera has only one goal when it comes to security: to catch the perpetrator in the act
