subject: Methods Of Protecting Patio Furniture From The Sun [print this page]

Regardless of the source of price paid for your patio furniture, you need to take steps to protect your investment. Without protection, the furniture will not last nearly as long as it could. One of the primary things responsible for its damage is the sun itself. Just as your skin burns if left in the sunlight too long, so too can patio furniture fade and weaken the material and the structure.

Patio umbrellas are simple, affordable and effective. There are three basic options for patio umbrellas each with their own advantages and disadvantages.

Table Mounted Umbrella

This method requires nothing more than the umbrella and a table able to receive it. Many patio tables come with a hole in the middle that fits the pole of the umbrella making it quick and easy to add shade to your patio ensemble. If you have a table without a hole you may be able to add one, if not, there are options that don't rely on the table to stand up.

Use it on a Base to Stand Independently

You can purchase a freestanding umbrella, if your table cannot accommodate the umbrella. This umbrella can still provide the protection you want for your furniture and it also can add a little more style to your backyard area. You could use a big ceramic pot to hold the umbrella and also plant flowers in it.

The Deck Mounted Umbrella

There is one other option if you have a deck or other structure with a railing. There are baseless patio umbrellas that are instead supported by a clamp that attaches them to a railing. This can free up space for walking or sitting on your deck, assuming your railing is stable enough to support the umbrella. The only limit is that your patio furniture must be arranged in such a way that it is close enough to the railing for the umbrella to do its job.

Any of these options are great for entertaining guests, preparing for events or designing a great layout for your business. Not only do these options keep people cool and dry, but it also protects the money you've already spent on furniture. These various methods are stylish and affordable ways of protecting your patio furniture.
