subject: A Yearning For Learning [print this page]

Many of us will automatically think back to the exams we took before leaving school when we are asked about our qualifications. These will obviously play a large part in our CV if we are looking for a new job, but just what other knowledge have we all picked up along the way?

When we learn a new skill it will usually give us a real sense of achievement. We all like to learn how to do new things and they can often prove to be very useful in our day to day lives. Even discovering exactly how something works will give us a bit of a buzz. Learning is a large part of being human and we spent our whole lives gobbling up new nuggets of knowledge.

Many of us will go back to college or complete a course in our spare time. Discovery is a natural thirst for us all; the more that we know the more we can do. Knowledge is an incredibly useful tool and it can have all manner of positive effects. By undergoing additional training at work we can carry out our jobs more efficiently. By tinkering around with the family car in our spare time we will learn how various components actually work. There are so many things to discover and they can all improve on our quality of life.

But it does not end there either. We are living in an exciting time where we literally have the world at our fingertips. Many people will even take their yearning for knowledge on vacation with them! There are all kinds of possibilities when you are booking a holiday these days. Why not look for a resort that offers tuition in how to abseil? Or what about signing up for a sailing course?

Sure, we all know how useful the internet can be for shopping, route-planning or watching the latest music videos, but it can also be used for many other things. After all, it is not known as the Information Superhighway without good reason! It is the obvious place to start when you want to find out about something new. You can learn all about the inner workings of the internal combustion engine, or book yourselves a sailing course for a unique holiday experience and even enrol for a course in Holistic Living. We all have a tendency to forget what an amazing tool the internet really is.

We are incredibly lucky to be in an age where information is so readily available to us all. If our job is becoming a bore then we can choose from so many other careers. The World Wide Web has opened an infinite number of doors to us in terms of employment and many training courses can be completed within the comfort of our very own home! Just think how much easier our lives are compared to people in the past. Even if you were to think about how things were only fifteen years ago then it would be a very different story.
