subject: Using Eye Drops To Relieve Eye Redness [print this page]

There are many factors that cause redness in the eyes. Oftentimes, because of lack of sleep, people will notice that their eyes are red when they look at themselves in the mirror. Crying is another cause, along with exposure to irritants that can trigger the eyes to become inflamed. Whatever the reason may be, one thing is for sure: we do not want red eyes.

Red eyes are embarrassing to look at. In fact, we hate it when other people notice it. Because of this, we resort to remedies and solutions to hide and even eliminate the redness. One "quick fix" we usually resort to is using sunglasses to cover our eyes, in order for people not to see them. This works fine when going outdoors but being confined to the four corners of your office can make wearing glasses rather conspicuous, and would make people wonder why you are wearing them in the first place. This is when using eye drops can be especially helpful. These saline drops are not used to "hide" the redness, but are in fact used to treat it.

There many types of drops available in drug stores online and offline, and as to which one you should buy would depend on what caused the redness.

If the redness is triggered mainly by lack of sleep or long hours in front of the computer, you would only need non-medicated drops to get rid of the problem. These type of drops contain lubricants that treat the dryness in the eyes and function as artificial tears.

Red eyes caused by allergic reactions can be treated using drops that contain antihistamines, which have properties that prevent the optical cells from responding to allergens such as dusts, pollens, and animal fur.

For other causes of redness such as bacterial and viral infections, there is a need to purchase drops that contain steroidal and antibacterial properties. These kinds of drops need a prescription for you to be able to buy them.

Generally, eye drops are purchased just to get rid of redness that is brought about by problems not caused by any medical condition thus these are mostly of the non-medicated type. While there are other uses of drops such as to treat itchiness and soreness, it is more common to find people buying it to reduce or completely get rid of redness because people find it very embarrassing to go to work or attend a gathering with their eyes red.

Many stores online are selling eye drops to give you more shopping convenience. Although nothing beats buying from an actual store where you can scrutinize the product and be able to use it right then and there, buying from the Internet allows you more flexibility and gives you more choices. If you plan to stock up on drops just in case you might need them in the future, you should consider buying them through online sellers because you can choose from many different brands, types, and prices. And best of all, you do not have to wait in a queue!
