subject: Remy Hair V.s Non Remy Hair - What Is The Difference? [print this page]

If you just started looking into Remy hair for your hair extensions or hair weave you may have started to see the word "virgin" a lot. But, what in the world does this word mean? Well, in the same way you can buy alcoholic beverages and "virgin" beverages, Remy virgin hair refers to hair that is unaltered. It has not been treated with anything like chemicals or colorings. It comes as is, with the cuticle still attached to the hair. This is the best hair you can buy. However, not all Remy hair is virgin hair! Once it has been treated, it is no longer virgin, though it still is Remy.

Kind of confusing, but once you see the difference and you read more about it, it will begin to make more sense. Remy hair is considered to be of "premium" quality. The cuticle, which should still be attached to the hair, is left there for a reason - it keeps the hair from becoming tangled and matted. And it gives the hair a more natural look and feel. For commercial purposes, Remy hair comes in two types - single and double drawn. Single drawn refers to hair that is taken directly from the scalp of the shaved head. MUCH care is taken in order to remove the different hairs on the head.

You will find both short and long hairs with this option. The double drawn look is the finest caliber with the same wave length in a piece. The hairs are arranged with equal lengths. There will not be any short hair in a piece. This is also the more expensive of the two because more time is taken to collect and sort out the various hair lengths. You will ONLY get one hair length in each pack with this option, but again, you can buy various pack lengths. Usually they start at around 14 inches and go up to 24 inches in length. The longer the length, the more expensive it will be.

Non-Remy Hair is perhaps the most popular and unremarkable available kind of hair. Non-Remy Hair is also known as 'fallen hair'. The roots and tips of hairs are all mixed up in Non Remy Hair. Knotting is a problem as a result of this, but still since they are inexpensive, they are the biggest selling form of hair in the world. There are two main types of Non-Remy hair. The first is Tangle Free. This type of non Remy hair is obtained by shaving off the cuticles. This procedure reduces the chances of friction among hairs and what remains is tangle free hair.

The other type is Normal. This is the least expensive type of hair, but it's also the lowest quality of hair as well since the cuticles are in various directions and therefore it is prone to tangling, knotting and matting. Obviously the choice is up to you. But, if you can spend a little more and you want really great looking hair - that LOOKS and FEELS real, real Indian Remy hair is the way to go for any styling options - have it be hair extensions, extensions clip, clip hair, wigs or hair weaves!
