subject: The Body's Unconscious Reaction Called Reset Metabolism [print this page]

Healthy diet, physical work outs and good selection of food is the perfect way to lose your bulk. Eating less food to reduce calorie intake technically might work, however practically, it results in more damage than good. That's why professionally unguided diet plans usually end in failures. In the new diet plan the body continues to gain weight and not lose it. The key to weight control is the knowledge of reset metabolism. So how does it affect your weight gain or loss? Most people are ignorant of what happens when they try losing weight with less food.

A diet which fails

Fat is needed by the body as a long term fuel. In cave dwelling times man needed fat to survive in periods of starvation. When you try starvation now, your body gets back to instincts and starts storing more fat in preparation of a 'famine'. So, to survive through the famine mode, the body reduces its calorie burning process and stores more fat and this is called reset metabolism. The basic rule of the body here is to gain more pounds by storing fat for the future and slowing down current calorie burning rate.

When you sometimes allow yourself to indulge your natural cravings for food, your body automatically takes in the fats and hold on to it. Your body enters reset metabolism under calorie conservation mode. Thinking that this low caloric diet plan could help you lose weight, you even cut more of your caloric intake and decide to stay on that level. You believed that your diet to take in lot less food could help you control weight and avoid weight gain. Unknowingly, your belief resulted to a slower pace of converting food into body fuel or energy because your body automatically reset itself to its new metabolic rate. This sure thing will happen when you decide to eat normal food - gain weight!

Less food ending up in more weight

Your decision to eat less food in a certain period made you gain weight. Your pounds increased even if you were already at the point of eating much less than the previous less food that you had. This is because your body reset your metabolism to a slower pace in fear of starvation. Soon, you will find yourself eating much less than the minimum amount of nourishment that your body needs to function or suffer the consequence of gaining more weight.

Best form of weight control

You might want to know a better way to control your weight. The answer is to keep the metabolism rate high by having regular workouts and other physical activities that will burn calories. The body doesn't enter into starvation mode when you do natural physical activities like sweating. A new lifestyle is also a great option. Healthy diet along with exercise is a great way of controlling weight. A food habit of some fish, less meat, more vegetables with rice, along with physical activities like biking, gym workouts, and such are the best way to see yourself turn fitter and have your weight in control. The body doesn't go into unnecessary starvation mode here.
