subject: Our Concept Of Who We Are And Success In School [print this page]

Are you in school? If so, what have you learned about relating how you conceptualize yourself with having success in your studies? Now, you may have heard that esteeming yourself does not necessarily mean you are going to be successful in your studies. This is true. Simply believing in yourself does not get you there. It takes action to get there. But in any case, it is a start.

For so long a time, the art and science of education has considered the concept of self as possibly a vital aspect of excelling in academics. Well, let me tell you, that it is not just a possible; it is a fact. How we see who we are affects all we do. And if you are a student, what you do is trying to achieve well is school. Well, simply trying would not help. You need to have a proper perspective of yourself as a student. First, you must know what you are really doing in school. Even if you are already in College, you may not be aware that practically you have made a deal with the school establishment that you have enrolled in. First of all, you need to focus on your priorities.

Now being a genius does not guarantee success in school. However, acting like one can get you that success. It all begins with self-assessment and self-knowledge. How well do you know yourself? Sometimes, we may think that no matter what our human abilities are, having success in school seems to come as a result of sheer luck. Maybe because a school is not perfect"that is, every school system has its defects, then our competence would not necessarily be reflected in school records. But, human ability is a huge factor for academic achievement.

In school, we establish a certain "self""not simply an image, a certain set of behaviors, a certain set of ourselves that we use during school. When we interact with others the "school self" grows. It is nurtured or damaged. So be careful with your interactions. Interaction with those who can help you and those you can help. In school, of course a teacher can help you develop your self concept. So reach out to one whom you can trust. You need to be careful with your social environment. So be sure to have positive energy all around to build a positive self concept and even self image.
