subject: How Can Media Training Help Your Business? [print this page]

In the modern world, media training has become extremely important to all manner of people and organisations. It may have been thought in the past that media training was not an important thing to have, that only politicians and media stars needed to be aware of their communication skills in this way.

So who needs media training in the modern world? The answer is, that because there are so many outlets for media, websites, radio, TV, etc., anyone who has to get up in front of people and deliver a specific message needs to be fully aware of the effect they have on the audience. One badly delivered line, can, in some circumstances, be very costly for an organisation or company.

If we cast our minds back to the recent British General Election, then we might remember a few gaffes from the then Prime Minister, Gordon Brown. He knew that his communication skills were lacking, especially when compared with Nick Clegg and David Cameron and in all fairness to him, he did act. His success might be up for debate, but he did attempt to change the way he communicated. Arguably his new techniques, smiling, gestures etc., may have seemed a little.

But his willingness to gain media training demonstrates the importance of these skills when such big things are at stake. But the same is true for a small company, for example, whose Managing Director has been invited on to a radio show to discuss his company's activities within the community. If he fails to answer questions satisfactorily, or he seemed unnecessarily evasive, then he might project a negative impression of his company and the work they do.

There is also the question of the media that each firm itself commands; for example, many companies (if not all) have websites, and these websites might well have video or audio content that prospective customers wish to download. If you are in charge of this or feature in it in some way, and you work within the company in question, then it is imperative that media training is sought so that the best impression can be put across.

There are a wide range of media training specialists that offer this kind of training, and many of them can be found on the net. Investing in this area is something that can help with many future media events, not just upcoming ones.
