subject: Why Videogames Are Great For You [print this page]

There are a tremendous amount of poeple that love to play videogames. In this day and age where the power of technology could only be dreamt of by people even in the 90's, the gaming industry has been quite a force to reckon with. Computers are already mediums for entertainment no matter where you are in the world. Games are widespread and quite abundant. You can get them in your favorite video game store, or you can even download it online; legally, of course. But as entertaining and thought-provoking as some games may be, there are actually quite a lot of parents out there who disapprove of their kids playing these video games. But one thing stays true no matter what you think of videogames - it has truly come a long, long way.

Surely games of years past were fun and entertaining. We used to go out to the park or even just in our neighborhood to play with our friends and neighbors. But despite all of the advantages and perks that outdoor play may have for you, you should not overlook what video games can do for you too. For starters, here are a couple of reasons as to why videogames are quite good for you.

You will definitely be assured of developing your skills.

You might also find that there are a number of videogames that help you improve a certain skill or ability that you possess. Such games for children have also been developed to help them develop their analytical, cognitive, and reasoning skills. There are also quite a lot of games that teach people the value of teamwork, friendship and many other things - who said you could only learn about this through work shops and training camps? For the teenagers, most games may seem violent but these have their advantages too. There are quite a lot of benefits to videogames. Although we don't expect it right away, video games actually do help us.

Don't be weary of the thought that videogames are addictive, this is just simply because these are quite entertaining and pleasurable to play with. If you know how to restrain yourself, you need not worry about how addictive videogames can become. Be sure, however, that you do not forget about your responsibilities as well; addiction kicks in when you forget about your priorities in favor of playing your game.

Get your exercise while having fun.

You can actually put in some exercise while playing videogames. Physical exertion and videogames aren't really something that used to go together before, but these days they can. Which leaves you being able to put in a little exercise in the process. One good example would be the Dance Dance Revolution (DDR). Now who said games requiring physical interaction wouldn't be fun? Despite all that fun you're having playing, you are actually being quite productive, since you are also going to be burning up a couple calories at the same time. Although it might take some getting used to, but once you're past the learning curve all that hand-eye and possibly even foot movement would be like second nature to you.

Nintendo is actually quite an advocate to this, bringing exercise to their much-celebrated and widely accepted Wii console. Take for example baseball, golf, tennis, or bowling. If you don't have the time to play the real thing, you can do it all in the comfort of your own home through Wii sports or other titles. Even though it would be virtual, it's still quite an enjoyable experience. That is because it feels like the real thing.

Helps us learn new things.

A persons interests can tell a lot about someone, like perhaps his skills and talents. You may not intend to "study" the game but eventually, you learn something about it. Like, a person may suck at playing basketball, but because he plays a basketball game on the computer, he learns some tactics on planning and can help out his team by sharing some ideas. There are a lot of other things we can pick up from videogames. Although some people may not see its worth, there is a whole lot to learn from videogames and you can actually put what you have learned in to good use.
