subject: Games Preview - Lost Planet 2 [print this page]

Lost Planet 2 is the highly-anticipated sequel to Capcom's last third-person shooter, Lost Planet: Extreme Condition. It takes place a decade after the events that left off with the end of its predecessor. The face of the planet, EDN III, has drastically changed since then, with the success of terra-forming efforts melting ice and providing space for other land types to emerge.

Tropical jungles and brutal deserts are now beginning to grow in size and count. Players enter this strange new world to begin their own adventures as snow pirates on a quest for control over this ever-changing planet in an ongoing war to gain thermal energy known as T-ENG. These snow pirates join up into different pirate gangs like NEVEC (Neo-Venus Construction), Yuri's Snow Pirates, and many more.

Aside from battling each other, these snow pirate factions also engage in vicious attacks on the Akrid, a massive insect species native to EDN III.

The adventures in Lost Planet 2 are truly custom, as players get to navigate through six dynamic, interconnected episodes that change depending on what choices they make. Single player mode actually evolves based on actions and choices a player makes, making for greater game dynamics than most other games provide through static game-play. Plot threads evolve from the perspectives of different players.

Lost Planet 2 is packed with more of the same you craved from the original. Its co-operative mode allows for up to 4 players to team up in battle against each other and the giant Akrid via 4 player co-op or 2 player split-screen. The Akrid are bigger and badder than they were in the previous Lost Planet, having expanded the powers of their armies.

Teamwork is definitely a necessity in this mode if victory is to be achieved, as each player is dependent on the others for mutual survival. There is no sign of boredom ahead with this multi-player action, with the intensity and action packed inside the various missions that is sure to win over a massive fan base.

Characters can be customized levels deeper than the previous Lost Planet, as players get hundreds of different ways by which they can create a customized character for both online and offline battle. Weapons are also customizable to give players that extra unique look.

If you haven't seen the trailer yet, you should stop what you are doing and go check it out. The graphics match the awesome game-play of this game to a tee, with Capcom's advanced graphics engine, the MT Framework 2.0, bringing the game to life with state-of-the-art, high-performance 3D graphics.

Lost Planet 2 is scheduled for worldwide release for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Microsoft Windows gaming platforms in May 2010. Originally set for release in early 2010, let's hope the release date is "for reals" this time.
