subject: Expand Your Home With A Room Addition [print this page]

It seems that people are spending their money more wisely these days investing it in ways that will give a good return. One of the best investments we can make is to add on to our home. Besides a great return on our investment, there are many other benefits to adding some extra living space.

Obviously, a terrific reason for a room addition is to add value to our biggest investment; our home. Living space is a huge selling point and when it is done right can add value to the home, so much so that it could possibly even pay for itself. People like space either to enjoy by relaxing in or for storage to free up some other areas of the home. Either way additions on the home are a great value and a smart upgrade.

Even if we are not planning on moving or selling our home anytime soon, we can enjoy the extra living space ourselves. The more room the better is not only true but it is a fact. Extra space to store our belongings, space for relaxation, or to have others over so they can relax are all benefits that give us a sense of freedom.

What not having enough space can do is to make our lives feel cluttered. We have all walked through a room and tripped on clutter or had to step over things. It is never much fun when we have to walk around or squeeze past things because there is not enough room. Subconsciously it makes us feel trapped which can lead to anxiety and stress.

A great room addition can be a master bathroom. If the layout of the home allows for it, a master bathroom can raise the value of the home quite a bit. Even if the bedroom in which the new bath will be attached to is a second story room it can still be done. Moreover, with second story room additions, there is an opportunity to have more space on the first story below. Many times an extra closet or storage room can be added underneath the new room add-on.

Another very popular additional room idea is to have a sunroom or screened in porch added to the back of the house. Some people will have this room added right on top of an existing deck or porch and the cost can be very reasonable. This extra space will yield back a good return on our investment and it will certainly be enjoyed while we are still living there.

Even decks can be considered as room add-ons if you think about it. As long as the weather is nice, a deck is extra outdoor living space. Families gather on decks all the time for cookouts and parties which can free up space inside the home. Putting a roof over an existing deck or having it screened in can mean using it year round.

There are many things to consider when putting on a room addition but knowing that it can be a good bang for our buck makes it a little easier decision. When done properly, room additions are a good investment and can increase our quality of life in many ways.
