subject: To Market, To Market: The Top Five Must-dos On San Franciscos Market Street [print this page]

If youve ever been to San Francisco, chances are youve already fallen in love with the spectacular city by the bay. From the Embarcadero to Corbett Avenue in Twin Peaks, Market Street is the place to be. One of the citys most popular thoroughfares, its got shopping, entertainment, dining, and so much more. But if youre short on time, what are the five things you HAVE to do or see?

5. Theater. If youre really lucky, youll get the opportunity to take in a show at the historic Orpheum Theatre. First opened in 1926, its past is as colorful as the city it resides in, and with large productions like Wicked, its future is bright. The theater district is also home to a number of hotels near Market Street San Francisco.

4. Fairs and Festivities. Youll have a wonderful time if you plan a trip around one of Market Streets many parades or street fairs. Plan carefully, though. Hotels in San Francisco near Market Street may be difficult to access if streets are closed.

3. Cable Car Ride. Seriously, youre not thinking of visiting San Francisco and NOT riding a cable car, are you? Though the cable cars no longer run ON Market Street, ask the front desk at any of the Market Street San Francisco hotels for the best spot to catch one near there, and where to go.

2. Shopping. As the citys busiest street, you can bet its got some great spots for retail therapy. From many hotels, Market Street San Francisco shopping is just steps away. Bring a big bag.

1. EAT UP! Like to eat? Masa's, Boulevard and Wolfgang Puck's Postrio offer variations in the spectrum of French/California cuisine, all of them expensive, and all of them worth it. For lovers of seafood and creative design, Farallon, also pricey, is styled on an undersea grotto theme. Don't think of going to these places without a reservation.
