Back in 1810, Kamehameha the Great brought together the eight major Pacific islands. He then formally established the Kingdom of Hawaii.
This annual heritage tradition - Na Kamehameha Pa'u Parade - commences with colorful pa'u riders on horseback riding down Front Street in Lahaina, Maui.
The Na Kamehameha Pa'u parade will be followed by a ceremony to honor the Royal Court and a cultural celebration with music, arts & crafts, and displays of lei and kapa making and more.
This year's parade was held on June 12 and proudly celebrates 200 years of Hawaiian unity.
The theme for the 2010 parade is "E Ho'okahi Ka Mana'o, Ho'okahi P'uwai, Ho'okahi Ke Aloha". The translation is - Be of one mind, one heart, one love.
The festive parade featured colorful floats, marching units, decorated vehicles, and beautiful riders on their horses. The entire event proudly honors King Kamehameha and his family.
