Rocket German is an on line German learning system. Does it actually work?
WHAT DO YOU GET WITH YOUR PURCHASE? Rocket German is available as a set of CDs or as a download. Inside you will find audio recordings, special software games, videos, and more. In addition, you get access to the Learning Lounge where you can test your progress, and communicate with other students and teachers.
The idea is to teach German by a system known as Visual Association. Visual association is the way you learned to speak your native language. You HEARD a word and SAW its meaning at the same time. In this manner you effortlessly and swiftly learned the meanings of words. Rocket German attempts to duplicate this process with the use of video, audio, and software.
DOES IT REALLY WORK?
IF you are ready to work with the program in a consistent way, Rocket German can be extremely powerful. Ideally, you should aim to view the lessons for some time every day (at least 30 min - 1 hr a day). The individual lessons are made to build on each other. Because of this, being consistent is very important.
Picking up a new language is alot like learning to ride a bike. For the first 6 or 7 lessons you may think that you are not getting anywhere. If you keep going, however, you will hit a point when things suddenly come together. You will find yourself making sentences without effort and hearing most of the words in the audio recordings.
From there you can go on to learn more vocabulary and more advanced grammar.
IS IT THE BEST WAY TO GO FOR EVERY STUDENT?
Some students find it difficult to focus unless there is some outside pressure like an upcoming "exam" or a teacher checking their "homework".
Rocket German is a self-paced approach. It is powerful but you have to provide the consistency yourself.
If you think you might need the pressure of a class setting in order to take action, look into classes at a local college. Keep in mind that a class will cost much more and will take longer.
