Today in Ireland, Karting is also becoming a popular way into motorsport. The first rung on the ladder begins with the cadet class, this caters for kids aged 8 12. This Championship is held throughout Ireland, the for main tracks are : Kiltorcan in Co.Kilkenny (Irish Karting Club), Kartworld Watergrasshill in Co.Cork (Munster Karting Club), Pallas Karting Tynagh in Co.Galway (Southern Karting Club), Athboy Karting Athboy in Co.Meath (Meath Karting Club).
To start off Karting in the Cadet championship there are a number of things the driver and parent/guardian will need to do, and they are as follows:
> Join a Karting Club
> Get a competition licence ( to get this the driver will need to complete an Introduction to Motorsport Course )

> Buy a Kart
> Buy your safety equipment : Helmet, suit, boots, rib and elbow protectors etc.
> Buy a transponder ( this is needed for each Kart, for the track officials to record your times )
> Buy a trolley ( this is needed to transport your Kart to and from the grid )
