You are a family
When a couple get married a new family is created. Never allow anybody outside of this newly created family to threaten it. While the two of you are responsible for protecting one another from external threats, it is especially the task of the husband to make sure that nothing and nobody hurts his wife not even (or should I say especially not) your own parents!
Your wife, your marriage and your new family should be the most important things in your life. You should nurture your family, defend your family and never take it for granted.
Communicate properly
Never underestimate the importance of communication. Make sure you pay attention to your wife when she speaks especially if it is a topic that does not really interest you.
Remember that in wanting to talk with you your wife is trying to share her world with you. And if you have children, she will also want to share the children's world with you. If you are disinterested in what she says, you are telling her that she and the children are unimportant "side shows" in your hugely interesting and fulfilling life...
Do not make this mistake. Your wife and children are much more important than anything else in your life. If you do not believe me, then just try imagining yourself sitting in her memorial service... Imagine that you will never see her again, never hear her voice or her laugh again. Imagine having supper without her, going out on your own, visiting your friends on your own. If you have a child, imagine what it would be like to have to feed the child all by yourself, and raising the child without his/her mother...
Appreciate your wife while you still can!
Make a will
Many young people tend to neglect making a will, possibly because we all seem to think that only old people die...
Do not take this risk.
If you want to be a good husband, then making a will must be one of your highest priorities after you get married. And again after the birth of each and every child child.
It is not complicated to make a will, and in most countries there is lots of assistance with it. In many countries the drafting of a will is either free or the cost is really negligible.
Why is this important?
Because if you die without leaving a will you leave your poor wife with additional worries. Depending on the family, she could even be in dire straits if you did not leave a will that specifies your wishes to care for her when you are no longer around.
If you take nothing else from this article, then do at least this one thing make a will... TODAY!!
