subject: Why You Need A Gps Tracking Device [print this page]

GPS devices have advanced a lot over the last few years. Navigation systems now come in many shapes and sizes, from the standard GPS devices to cell phone integrated devices to computer USB attachments.

Of course, what you see most frequently are the more traditional stand-alone devices that are installed in a variety of vehicles. The GPS systems can be used by anyone no matter how technologically challenged you might be, and with them being so convenient, it behooves you to learn how to use one instead of lugging around on an old map book.

With GPS systems, there are 2 major types that are used depending on the situation. The first is what they call a 'real time' system, while the second is a 'passive' system.

The real time system is as the name indicates a way for the device to communicate data to us 'as it happens', while the passive units just stores the data as it happens for you to retrieve later.

Another type is a tracking device you can install on an automobile. As the name implies these are installed to track data about a given vehicle, whether it's location, speed, direction etc. These vehicle tracking systems can come in handy for companies that rely on their vehicles, such as trucking or delivery companies, as it allows them to track the vehicles and also get historical data to compare against.

Not to mention that the car tracking devices can be used in a car theft. If installed in your car, the police can locate the car without much trouble and retrieve it. A popular such unit is the low-jack system, which emits a tracking signal once activated. If you are buying a car it behooves you to invest in one in the event your car gets stolen.

There are several nice vehicle tracking solutions available, including a mini GPS tracking device sold for about two hundred dollars.
