subject: These Myths Can Stop Your Affiliate Marketing Efforts From Ever Producing Results [print this page]

Affiliate marketing has a low barrier to entry so it is the first place people stop when they decide they want to replace their current income. But you also need to be aware of some of the myths that surround affiliate marketing so that you know where you're going.

A big wishful myth is that there is a perfect affiliate program out there. The key to success with affiliate programs is to use different ones for different offers. If you are only marketing for one affiliate program then you are digging your own ditch to bury your business in. One affiliate program can't cut it because they can't provide you with the variety of offers that you will need to test the market with. Finding winning campaigns isn't very frustrating once you are a member of multiple program and have access to lots of campaigns to test. Apart from that, it makes sense to spread your earnings around many different affiliate programs because if for some reason you get banned from any of them, you won't lose all of your money. Not all programs will be a good match for you so giving them a quick test can help you decide. Even though there are affiliate programs that have stood the test of time and have positive reviews from many affiliate marketers, it's just wise to do your own testing. Always do your own homework on an affiliate program because you want to be sure you get paid. You also have the choice of joining an independent affiliate program or going with a large network that may have several hundred offers. The great thing is that once you are making a significant amount of sales you can negotiate payouts and other perks, as well. Affiliate marketing and advertising are thought by many to be the same; this is not true. Even though affiliate marketing is one of the greatest ways to get exposure for your product, it's no way similar to advertising. Advertising is good but you can be out of a lot of money fast because you are paying for ad space and/or every time someone takes a specific action. The good thing about affiliate marketing is that the only time you have to part with any money is when an actual sale is made. That's right, you and your affiliates are sharing the revenue. If you have a product idea or already own a product the your best bet is to start an affiliate program.

Remember, as an affiliate you don't need to have lots of flashy banners on your site to get sales. This myth is prevalent among new affiliates because they don't know any better. Your site is not a fireworks show so ditch the idea of flashing lights everywhere and attract your visitor's attention to things that count. Skip the banners, instead put all of your efforts into answering your searcher's/visitor's questions and pointing towards something that can alleviate their suffering.

All in all, affiliate marketing is easy for super affiliates because they work hard towards it, so make sure you avoid the myths that we discussed.
