Rocket German is an on-line German learning system. Does it actually work?
WHAT ARE THE COMPONENTS OF THE SYSTEM?
Rocket German comes as a CD set or a downloadable package. Inside you will find audio recordings, special software games, videos, and more. In addition to that, you are given access to the "Learning Lounge" where you can test your progress, and communicate with other students and instructors.
The basic approach is to teach German by Visual Association. Visual association is the way you learned to speak your native language. You HEARD a word and SAW its meaning at the same time. In this manner you easily and quickly learned the meanings of words. Rocket German tries to duplicate the process with the use of video, audio, and software.
DOES IT WORK?
IF you are ready to work with the program in a consistent way, Rocket German can be extremely powerful. Ideally, you should try to view the lessons for a little time every day (at least 30 min - 1 hr a day). The lessons are made to build on each other. Therefore, being consistent is crucial.
Learning a language is much like learning to ride a bike. For the first week or so you might think that you aren't getting anywhere. If you keep going, however, you will come to a point when things suddenly "fall into place". You will find yourself making sentences without effort and picking up most of the words in the audio recordings.
Then you can move on to learning more advanced grammer and vocabulary.
IS THIS THE BEST SYSTEM FOR EVERY STUDENT?
Some students find it hard to focus unless there is some outside pressure such as an upcoming "exam" or an instructor checking their "homework".
Rocket German is a learn at home approach. It is powerful but you must provide the follow-through yourself
If you think you need the pressure of a classroom setting in order to take action, look into classes at a local college. Keep in mind that classroom instruction will cost more and can take longer.
