subject: The Best Investment For Our Future: Education [print this page]

Education is always an important key to a good future. President Obama is a good example, and he has shown his commitment to helping others. One major part of the effort is to make available to students more free money for college.

College expenses continue to increase even as the economy slumps. Schools don't offer scholarships to ever student to cover necessary expenses. Many potential students suffer and are unable to afford to go to college. A large number of these people are working mothers. Educating women and single moms is important to increase the workforce and help provide for children and families. The President has attempted to help by encouraging more grants for single mothers to attend school. There is no difference between Federal Pell Grants and Obama grants. The name "Obama grants" came as a result of the President's emphasis on educating moms. To help with university costs, a student can earn more than $5,000. The primary goal is to encourage single moms to return to school, and by 2012 they could receive as much as $5,400. Working mothers can pay for tuition and books or even daycare if that allows them to attend school.

The American Opportunity Tax Credit is also a very valuable program. With this tax credit, the first $4,000 of college expenses are free. This is a worthy incentive, especially for schools that are less expensive. A grant for a working mother as well as a tax credit can help fund much-appreciated educational advancement. Another great factor is that students aren't particularly targeted based on what or where they study. Diversity is encouraged. With more incentives, more ambitious adults will realize their goal to get a college degree.

Obama's efforts to improve education show that he takes this issue seriously. Through the recent stimulus package, many undergraduate and graduate loans will be less of a burden. There is also emphasis on ways to improve school and student achievement in all areas. There is also emphasis on encouraging more students to consider community college. To attend a 2-year college has a number of benefits, including saving money and learning a trade or skill.

"We need to put a college education within reach of every American. That's the best investment we can make in our future." Those are the words of President Obama in his 2007 speech Reclaiming the American Dream. The President's actions are reflecting his words. Scholarships for moms are only a small part of the mission to help educate more people. If you're a potential student who wants to make education a priority, there are many chances for you to do so.
