subject: Career Planning: Are You Doomed to the Job You Do Not Like? [print this page]

Career planning is an ever-lasting process which helps people to self-develop. If one has a very good job he/she should remember that it is essential to continue developing own skills. And what to do if you started working and understood that it is not what you wanted? It is easy. You should decide what you want and try to obtain it. The Wrong Choice or a Good Start? First of all, if you understood that the career you chose after graduating from school is not the one you need is not awful, but rather good. Now you definitely know what you do not need. Moreover, you might understand what career would be really good for you. You may want to change your job to some slightly different job, or you may want to change your whole career dramatically. In both cases you can look for possibilities to change your career within the same company. You can be surprised but in many cases there are a lot of such possibilities. If there is no such opportunity in company you work you can start preparing for your future career: define whether you need extra education or training, prepare your CV for applying for job you really want, etc. You already have experience in all this. Now you are able to do this, avoiding mistakes you might make while applying for your present job. Start training and developing skills necessary for your future career. Take your time in making your CV. Never Stop! You should also remember if you decided on what career you need you should move forward to obtain it. And if your present work can somehow prevent you from concentrating on your future career you should not be afraid to quit. You should never think that your present job is good for waiting for some better offer, especially if you have no opportunity to develop skills necessary for your future career. If you do stay you can fail to get prepared for career of your dream. And when the opportunity to start your future career comes you can be still not good enough to obtain it.
