subject: Enjoy The Viking Experience From Hotels Oslo [print this page]

Oslo has so much to offer all year round, from skiing in winter, festivals in summer or sports and activities, hotels Oslo have a lot to offer visitors to Norway.

Oslo is a picturesque city with lots of lovely parks like the Tyen Park behind the Munch Museum and the Frogner Park a short walk away from most hotels Oslo. Oslo is built in a horseshoe shape that is surrounded by forestry and is a really beautiful setting for the city.

Oslo is one of the wealthiest cities in Norway and this is evident from the bars, restaurants and shops, you may also see some of Norway's celebrities in the city doing their shopping. It has had a long journey before becoming the affluent city it is today, founded in the eleventh century although there is evidence of the area being used as a settlement dating back to 1000. Oslo has had a fair share of tragedy including being burned down 4 times in fires. However, now Oslo is a rich city so you may need to save some spending money before you visit.

Many people visit Norway to see the history of the famous Vikings and most hotels Oslo are close to the Viking Ship Museum where you can see artefacts from Viking times. The Viking Ship Museum has lots of authentic Viking ship findings taken from Gokstad, Oseberg and Tune, it also holds plenty of other discoveries from tombs of the Vikings around the Oslo Fjord. Only in Oslo can you see the world's two best-preserved wooden Viking ships, these date back to the 9th century and the Viking Ship Museum is one of the only places you can see real Viking Ships rather than just replicas. The Museum also holds lots of other interesting pieces like every day tools and household utensils used in Viking times, you can see textiles from over 1000 years ago as well as smaller boats and carts that have surprising ornaments and decorations.

With so much history it is not surprising Oslo has so many Museums, including the Natural history Museum, the Fram Museum, the Kon-Tiki Museum and art galleries. If you want to mix up culture with fun then you can also visit one of Oslo's amusement parks or go to the Arkershus Fortress.
