Suffering from an anxiety disorder panic attack is probably one of the things you will never ever forget. Your heart seems to be leaping out of your chest and you feel as though you are crawling out of your skin. The feeling of the skin takes on a different feel too, feeling cold and clammy to the touch, this feeling is so scary to some people. Your thoughts are jumbled and you could even have trouble breathing or swallowing. You feel as though you are a prisoner of your mind, and you are. These are what are known as Anxiety Disorder Panic Attacks.

At some point in our lives around 20% of people will suffer from some form of anxiety attack which is worth thinking about. It is so traumatic that many people suffering from an anxiety or panic attack end up at the accident and emergency department in their Hospital thinking they are having a heart attack. With the symptoms of heart attacks and anxiety or panic attacks being similar it is difficult to know exactly what you are having but generally heart attack victims do not have heart palpitations. It is quite simple to notice that something is not right here.

Many people feel little sympathy for those who have anxiety and feel that they should just "snap out of it." What most do not recognise is that anxiety disorders cause anxiety attacks and they are very real. Someone might no more snap out of an anxiety attack than they might a broken leg.

Our reactions to certain life threatening situations and to large amounts of stress has been handed down through generations of evolution and that is how we are taught to react in situations such as these. It can happen though that we have the illusion of these fears and life threatening situations when in fact there are none, this is caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain and it is a very powerful emotion. We then try to come up with an answer as to why we are having these feelings at all. It has been found too that many frequent sufferers of anxiety disorder panic attacks likewise are sufferers of obsessive compulsive disorder as well. In cases such as this many people have so many thoughts rushing around in their heads that bother them so much, they will frequently repeat rituals over again. A ritual of hand washing over and over again is common with somone suffering from OCD

For most people that have anxiety attacks it is following a part of their lives when they had a stressfull event happen. Someone who suffers more than one anxiety attacks is habitually diagnosed with an anxiety disorder. This term anxiety disorder covers a wide spectrum of other disorders which includes general anxiety disorder, OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder), social disorder or post-traumatic stress disorder and panic disorder too. It is hard to treat these disorders seperately as most of the symptoms for each are similar as is the treatment for them too.

The treatment given to combat the anxiety attacks is regularly a combination of anti-depressants, anti-anxiety medication and as well some therapy. The treatment for anxiety disorder panic attacks as said earlier might include medication, therapy and also herbal medicines might be used if required so the arsenal available to treat this disorder is vast.
