subject: Grapes Growing on a Trellis [print this page]

Before growing grapes a trellis should already be constructed. Backyard vineyards can use homemade trellises but it is better to have the trellises constructed if the area is wide. Having a trellis constructed would make the trellis more sturdy and standardized. Whether you use an arbor or trellis the first thing that the grower needs to do is to plant the grapes. After which, the shoots would start to grow. The sturdier shoots can be selected and attached to the trellis using a cloth or a rope. At this point all you need to do is water and watch the grapevines grow. Once all the planting is done you will begin the fertilizing, pruning and gathering of the fruit.
