subject: Doggy Parties Can Be Fun! [print this page]

It maybe seem like a strange idea to you but having a doggy party can be a lot of fun. Why would you want to have a doggy party? There are lots of reasons! You can have a doggy party for some of the same reasons that you have people parties: birthdays, to meet new dogs and people when you move into a new neighborhood; holidays; to celebrate a "Gotcha" day (the day you adopted your dog); someone's getting a new puppy; graduating from obedience school. And you can have a doggy party "just because." Invite a few of your dog's special friends over, whether they're dogs of humans.

Doggy parties can be as simple or as elaborate as you want to make them. Most parties will have a cake or cupcakes for the dog guests. These edibles are often one of the highlights of the party for your dog. You can make them yourself or visit a dog bakery to select one. Dog cakes and goodies are made from ingredients that are safe for dogs to eat. For instance, it's important to remember that you should never use chocolate in cakes and goods for dogs. Instead, you can easily substitute carob which is fine for dogs to eat and gives the same appearance as chocolate.

You can use ingredients like chicken or beef baby food in your dog cakes -- these are canine favorites. For icing you can use cottage cheese, especially if it's been whipped up in a blender for a few seconds. Sour cream is another favorite that makes a good icing. It's also fine to add some popular veggies like apple or pumpkin in different forms to your dog cakes. Dogs love them and they are a healthy addition to your dog cakes.

To decorate your dog cakes you can let your imagination roam wild. You may wish to bake your cakes in round cake pans and then cut them into different shapes to make them look like a dog or some other shape that is appropriate for your party theme. Or, you can make your cake a simple round or rectangular sheet cake and decorate it with cute dog-related toppings. One popular idea is to use Pupperoni sticks instead of candles on the top of the cake.

As far as party decorations go some people like to give out small dog toys as party favors. You can use little chew toys, for instance. Other people have used thin rawhide chews as party invitations and written the details of the party on the chew when sending it to the guests.

For fun and games be sure to set aside some play time for the dogs invited to your dog's party. Supervised play is best.

There is really no limit to what you can do when it comes to planning a party for your dog. Consider the things that your dog enjoys, including the people and the dogs he likes, and you can have a wonderful time inviting them over to a party.
