subject: One Of The Most Interesting Entrepreneurs - Robert Kiyosaki's Story [print this page] I bought an iPad about a week ago and have been checking out all its various applications and features. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that when downloading books onto the device, there is no need to plug it in to a computer. (My wife probably could have told me as much, since she already had a Kindle, but it was news to me.) I decided to download a favorite book of mine that I discovered years ago.
The book is called Rich Dad Poor Dad and is written by Robert Kiyosaki and Sharon Lechter. The book is about Kiyosaki's life growing up and the different views he encountered about money and business. As a child and young adult, the two major influences in Kiyosaki's life were his father and his mentor. In the book, he refers to his corporate-minded father as his "Poor Dad." Then, Kiyosaki refers to a non relative entrepreneurial "Rich Dad."
His Rich Dad would go on to teach Kiyosaki lessons most are not privy to.
Throughout the book, Kiyosaki frequently points out differences between the two influences during his younger years. One statement which is quite prevalent is when Kiyosaki says,
"Because I had two influential fathers, I learned from both of them. I had to think about each dad's advice, and in doing so, I gained valuable insight into the power and effect of one's thoughts on one's life. For example, one dad had the habit of saying 'I can't afford it.' The other dad had forbade those words to be used. He insisted I say, 'How can I afford it?'"
Ive discussed this in previous articles, however when it comes to finances or achieving a particular goal, internally you cannot ask yourself as yes or no question. Doing so gives you too much leniency to go back to sitting on the couch and go back to the corporate world the following day. For most people, the worst thing about working at a corporate is that most companies dont use all of your strengths. You have one job; if you want to do that job, well thats just fine as your company needs somebody to perform that repetitive task every day. Conversely, if you do not want to continuously do the tasks which are required of you, you will promptly be terminated.
Always keep in mind that your companys HR division, among other things, is professionally trained to find and hire somebody who is willing to do your daily tasks and who does not mind the repetition. The most frustrating part about it is that after a few months, people will forget about any accomplishments you made. However, if you do decide to go the corporate route, chose your company very carefully as you must have autonomy and room to be creative within the organization. Otherwise, you are going to go through the same situation which is described above.
