Part 30 of 73

I turned away to someone on the other side of the room. I don't like it when they are drunk." "

You don't really drink, do you?" I ask Xaba. "No," he answers. "I am more like you. I have been pretty smashed once or twice, it's not worth it. It is as if you are looking for control outside of yourself and there is none. The power is not there, it is on the inside."

"The next day we began packing and a few days later we were up in the same area north of Mupa and Evale. The same orders. It went well and we were very successful. But this time it was different. One day they came. Do you remember?" I ask Xaba. "They had mounted those massive machine guns on the back of the vehicles." He nods. "I remember," he says. "He was one of those killed."

"Who?" asks Xaba. "The one that wanted to know." "Know what?" "About God." "And what did you do about it?" "What could I do? I can't live his life for him. It is so sad, so tragically sad. Maybe this is the real secret," I think out loud. I look over at Xaba. "Do you know the Father?" I ask him. Xaba does not answer, just looks at me incredulously. Must have been a stupid question,

I think. God knows him. He is a good person, Xaba.
