Part 26 of 73

"Another cold drink for you?" "No," Xaba responds harshly and quickly. "Who is the navigator on this journey?" I get the feeling there is something of importance for him in this discussion. "What do you mean?" I ask. "Who is navigating this life?" he asks. "I am," I respond without thinking. "Isn't it God?" he asks. "They always say God is the source of everything. God is in control. Everything is His will."

This time I weigh my words carefully before answering. "He is the one who creates," I say, "but you and I must navigate. You must navigate your own life." "That is not true for most people," Xaba hits back. "Look around you. They are waiting for the fairies, laying the fault at everyone else's door, always looking for someone else to blame. If it is not the devil, then it is God, but itis always someone else's fault and never their own! A pity, isn't it?" He falls silent.

"Do you believe this was the big secret?" I ask. "What? To navigate? I don't know," he says. He remains silent, staring straight ahead. It seems like forever before he says: "If I am where the Father wants me to be, then that is probably the closest I will come to happiness in this life. It does not get better than that. Life has been good to me too. Very good. Maybe that is because I have always played the game close to God, closer than I knew." Xaba smiles quietly and takes another sip of cold drink.
