Charm jewellery comes in various forms, such as bracelets, necklaces and anklets. They are now the most popular jewellery gift in the UK after a revival of the 1970s fashion, according to the gift chain and jeweller, H Samuel. Charms for bracelets have become popular because each one means something, making it the perfect gift for birthdays, graduations, christenings and just about every occasion you can think of.

It is nearly graduation season and charms are set to be high in demand for people buying graduation themed charms for their loved ones who are about to make the transition from student to the working world. Other higher end companies sell charms which are more expensive, such as London Links, Pandora and Tiffany, who can charge hundreds for a single charm.

At most jewellers, charms sell starting at 7.99 for a crystal flower up to 210 for a 14 ct gold heart bead, along with the more modern alternatives like a tiny gold lipstick or handbag. While this generation is loving charms, previous generations used to have lucky links like horseshoes or dice. Nevertheless, the current generation of young women reportedly prefer modern charms, now known as beads, such as a tiny mobile phone or a cupcake.

Many jewellers have decided to market heirloom charms, Mr Jones said: Were looking back to traditional ideas of heirlooms to treasure in these modern times- and need everyday reminders of the good things in life.

The higher end designer jewellers such as Tiffany have already sold charms as heirlooms, such as 21st birthday charms, which women can pass down to relatives as collectibles.
