Ear Training. 1

This method will work best when starting on guitar.

It will train the ear fast.

Ear Training. 1

Start by playing any note anywhere on the guitar.

Fool around with a few notes and come up with

two or three note idea of your own.

Now stick to that idea and slowly add different

notes to your idea. I will warn you, alot of the

notes you add are going to sound wrong

Don't let this frustrate you, but let it

propel you forward. Get good at keeping

your first 3 notes idea, and add a note

to it that you found with your own

search by ear that sounds good. Good,

Ear training. 2

Ok!! stop, rest and breath deep and think.

What is it I am trying to get you to be aware of?

If you invent a 3 note melody, we will considered it a song.

Now play your 3 note melody and add one new note to the

3 note melody.

The more you do this with any 3 notes Melodie

it will train your ear to know what

notes you can add and not add.

Ear Training. 3

Here is another exciting way to train your ear that

the great composers do.

Make up a 4 note melody of

your own. When you play your 4 note melody look

at it as there is a beginning, middle, and an end.

Once you can play it well try this.

Make the end of your 4 note melody the first part.

Make the first part of the melody you wrote the

last part.

Now a new idea. Try leaving out the first part

and only play the middle and end part.

Now a new idea. Try playing the first part

and leave out the middle part, and play the end.

This is called Augmentation. It is a big

word but it simply means to rearrange the notes that

were originally derived from your first melody.

This is very exciting because your listener will

still feel very involved in your melody because

they recognize parts, weather they are played first

or last in a melody. Good!

Ear Training is good for you. These are some very basic

ideas. The augmentation idea will last you a life time

it is such and intuitive game you can play with the

melody. This is also great for developing your song

melodies, and finding variations on the melody for different

sections. The awesome part about this is the fact that

your listener will always be involved, because they identify

with the melody notes in any arrangement you put them.

Their subconscious just identifies and knows they are enjoying

the music. Fascinating isn't it.

Make sure you do these exercises in the different positions

on the guitar fret board.

Ear training. 4

Now here is the third approach to learning a melody

with our ear. Play a chord that will establish a key.

Lets start of with the key of C. You are going to

learn how to play the melody to a song

this time by ear. Pick a typical melody

first like Happy Birthday.

When you strum the chord C listen to the chord fill

up the room and you will hear the starting note for

the song Happy birthday. It may take a few times but

trust me you will find the starting note on the guitar.

Now proceed to try to play the whole melody by ear.

At first you may feel tone deaf. If it is really hard for

you get your guitar book one. Play the starting

chord and then play the first two bars of the song.

Now look away from the music and do your best

to find the rest of the notes for the song by yourself.

Do this exercise every day with different songs

it will really develop your ear. Good

I have shown you three methods to train your ear.

The one I like best is the first and second approach

in the beginning of the article. I wish you

luck with this, and I am excited to be able to

show you this.
