subject: Four Important Items You Need To Improve Your Photography [print this page]

You may have quite an expensive camera on your hands, but why aren't your pictures as good as you expected them to be?

It's not exactly a matter of skill nor talent. In fact, you might have even gone to school and read all the best photography books. Why is that? It's probably because you don't have the right equipment yet. So before you go on eBay to sell off that great camera you bought, consider buying some of the following things that you may have needed to improve the pictures that you have been taking.

A tripod. That's right, a tripod. No matter how skilled or talented you may be behind the lens, you will surely have the need for this at one point or another. Every photographer needs a tripod. Surely enough, you will have your own share of situations when a tripod will be of much use to you. A tripod will not only just keep a camera steady for that great shot you want to capture. It's also quite useful to keep your camera in position for a shoot while you're preparing the backdrop, model, or the settings in your camera to get that perfect shot. If you don't have one just yet, get one for that expensive camera of yours.

A level. Some tripods have them built in but if you don't have some kind of level then your horizontal and your vertical shots might just be off all of the time. A level will help you get the right horizontal and vertical angle that you need to perfect your architecture shots or any other shots you think you may need help with.

Filters. You are definitely going to need this if you're planning to get the right amount of light for your shot. Your camera is not enough when it comes to trying to get the right contrast between the land and sky or ocean and sky. You can fix this by investing in camera filters that can give you all sorts of lighting effects. You can use these things to control colors and light that your camera can capture so you can truly get the shot you want.

The lens. Surely enough, there are a whole lot of lenses that you can buy for your camera. If you are looking to capture as much as you can when it comes to landscape photography or if you are taking pictures of huge crowds of people, then you need a wide-angle lens.

You can also get yourself a zoom lens if you feel that you want to capture things from a distance. Zoom lenses are great for sporting events or if you are out taking pictures of various animals in the wild.

Macro lenses are perfect for those people who take pictures of things up close like flowers, insects, food, and many others.
