Cimage Enterprise Systems, a worldwide leader in the development and supply of electronic document management solutions for the petrochemical, utilities and manufacturing industries, and Staffware Corporation today announced that John Crane Mechanical Seals has selected Cimage and Staffware for managing engineering documentation and processes. John Crane, a $550M international supplier of engineered sealing systems, will implement the first phase of the enterprise wide project at their Morton Grove, IL facility.

The Cimage Document Manager and Staffware 97 application will be used to manage all corporate documentation, with the initial users located within engineering. The system is expected to manage over 600,000 drawings and 3,000,000 support documents (typically five support documents for each drawing). Staffware will be used to coordinate and manage the engineering design and change process within the facility.

There will be 500 users in the first phase, with the second phase of installation enabling instant access by 2,000 users in the US, UK and other countries around the world.

"People ranging from occasional users right through to continuous power users find the software easy to use for our applications," said Dave Bauman, VP of Business Enterprise Systems Development for John Crane Mechanical Seals. He continued, "This is one reason for selecting software widely installed in an industrial setting. The system is part of a John Crane program to enable access to engineering and manufacturing documentation from anywhere in the world."

"In working with John Crane to deliver a complete Engineering Information System, we knew that a fundamental component of this solution was integration with their existing environment to include manufacturing systems, such as ERP and other business applications. Staffware's open architecture allows for this seamless integration while its distributed server capabilities are adept for enterprise wide use," said Joseph Barry, VP of Operations for Staffware Corporation.

The Cimage / Staffware combination will also work in close coordination with the currently being implemented enterprise resource system (MFG/PRO from QAD, Inc.) as well as a component and supplier management (CSM) system from Aspect Development, Inc. The Cimage document management server will operate on an HP/UX platform and will utilize an Oracle relational database.
