subject: Living With Pets In A Travel Trailer [print this page]

When you and your spouse live in a travel trailer life can be difficult. There is limited space and the two of you will be extremely close to say the least. Then when you add pets into the mixture this is even more of a challenge.

My spouse and I are both animal lovers and therefore we refuse to let our small living space force us to give up our beloved pets. Therefore, we put our heads together and came up with the solutions to cover all of the issues we might encounter with having pets.

The small space means that the dogs have to be, walked, and have ample exercise daily. Therefore, we built a small 10-foot by 5-foot kennel, dog run outside in our small yard. This allows the pets to get out and romp and play during the day when they are not being walked.

Furthermore, the males and females cannot be together especially when the females are in season or you will have babies all over the trailer. Therefore, the females do fine on a dog trolley during the day. This takes care of the exercise and fun time.

Now there is the issue of potty time, you do not want your small home to smell like your pets. Therefore, you make sure to keep plenty of training pads or the puppy pads on hand. You will want to chance these frequently after they are soiled.

Dogs like many other animals do not want to sleep where they relieve themselves, so they will not use a pad that is badly soiled. This will cut down on the smell and keep your small home clean and fresh. You may also want to put a special wrap of some kind around your little male pets, as they will tend to mark their surroundings.

This behavior is almost impossible to break them of so it is best to just, work around the issue. You can get these male wrap at your local pet supply store and the disposable pads to prevent messes. The wraps are machine washable as well; they can be, reused many times.

You will have to check your little males frequently during the day if they stay inside to change the disposable pad inside the wrap and throw it away to keep the pet clean.

There are also pet diapers and under ware for the females, if they are not house broken or if they are in season and you do not want a mess in your home.
